Some cunning women claim that they only allow cats and no one else in a room when they are doing a ritual. The reason for this exemption is cat’s ability to see the spirits that the practitioner may miss during a ritual and “deal with them” their own way. One legend also tells that cats were originally created by God as the messengers between humans and the Divine; therefore, cat’s presence during a ritual would allow one an easier communication with the Divine.
During Svyatka, the two weeks of winter holidays between Christmas Eve (January 6th in Ukraine) and Epiphany (January 19th), an ancient tradition takes place. A little before midnight, one could place a candle and a mirror on a table. The lady stares intently into the mirror and at the stroke of midnight she will see a man looking over her shoulder. This man is the lady’s future husband. Another custom was to сarry a mirror outside and point it to the moon, saying, “My groom, come to me and talk to me”, then his portrait might appear in the mirror.
Scrying, also known by various names such as “seeing” or “peeping”, is the practice of looking into a suitable medium in the hope of detecting significant messages or visions. The objective might be personal guidance, prophecy, revelation, or inspiration, but down the ages, scrying in various forms also has been a prominent means of divination or fortune-telling. It remains popular in occult circles, discussed in many media, both modern and centuries old.
