Description
This magical salt is basically a Slavic version of witches salt and was ritually prepared on Good Thursday April 6th 2023. I decided to go with the Gregorian calendar date instead of the new date as the timing was much more auspicious. Not only was this “Good Thursday”, it was also my 40th Solar Return, and a full moon. On May 13th 2023 this salt was also taken with me to Lac La Biche where I snuck it into my Provody (Blessing of the Graves” basket on my Ancestors grave and had it blessed again by a priest.
You will receive 1 random vintage shaker and a vial of Thursdays Salt that was ritually prepared by The Witch
As told by Olga
“A day of great magical significance to Slavs. Some go about it the easy way – simply leave plain salt on Wednesday night “under the stars” or even take it to the church to be blessed, although many priests nowadays are prohibited from blessing salt, for preparation and use of Thursday salt are Pagan, not Christian customs.
Recipes for its preparation vary: some burn it in the wood-stove or fireplace instead of oven, others prepare it in a cast-iron frying pan on the stovetop. Traditionally made with burned rye bread you can find a some different variations of the recipe here.
Very sneaky women hide it in their Easter baskets & get it blessed on Easter service, so that the priest does not realize that he was also blessing salt along with other Easter foods. However, a true Thursday salt is “blessed by fire” – it is coarse rock salt that was burned in the fire of an oven, and “turned black” from it. Such salt is an extremely potent tool in ritual purification, folk healing, banishing, and household magic.
“You are salt of all salts, as you come into my home, all the bitter sorrows are gone. Protect and save, keep all trouble away.”
Prepared salt is placed in a linen bag and left outside overnight (“under the stars”). It is kept for a year in a safe place (traditionally, in the Red Corner, behind the icons, or in a cabinet where you keep your magical tools). Next year, fresh salt is prepared.
Used in banishing and purification rituals instead of regular salt – it is especially powerful for this purpose, for it combines powers of all the four Elements: Earth from salt, bread, and herbs, Water from the soaked bread, Fire from the oven and stove, and Air that is everywhere. Most commonly it is associated with purifying properties of Fire and Earth elements. Such salt is added to water for washing floors after an “unpleasant visit”. It is sprinkled for protection under the threshold – malevolent spirits and ill-wishing people are not able to cross over such a “barrier”. Along with flax fibers and herbs, it is used as stuffing for a “magical pincushion” – a place where Slavic witches keep needles and pins for their magical and, sometimes, mundane sewing.
It can be added to the bath for ailing family members. A pinch of Thursday is added to child’s bath, so that the child would grow healthy and beautiful. If there is a trouble and sorrow in the house, it is sprinkled in every corner. If spouses would not stop arguing and fighting, a bag of Thursday salt is placed under the pillow. If someone left the house, and does not come home for a long time, a pinch of I is thrown into hearth-fire. From my own experience, this really works, especially if you do this with a spell: “Father-Fire, I return you what is yours, return me what is mine” – usually, within 15 minutes I get news from the person I am missing.
For prosperity, Thursday salt is placed in a wooden salt dish and set in the center of the table. If an ill-wisher came to visit, serve him or her food with a pinch of that salt, and if enemy visited, after he or she leaves, sprinkle all his or her footprints with Thursday salt. For peace and agreement in the house, a pinch of Thursday salt is thrown under every bed near the headboard.
Finally, Thursday salt is an offering to the Dark Slavic Deities, whenever calling upon them to banish something from your life. It is added to black candles for increased “banishing properties”. Also, Slavic ritual tools are cleansed by placing them on a “bed of Thursday salt” for up to three days, so that they would “rest” as they say (they recommend warming up the salt for about 5 minutes on low heat, so that the salt would be warm and “active” before placing the tool on it).”
