Kalbeliya Evil Eye Mirror

CAD $20.00

Kalbeliya charms involve the magical “mirroring back” of the evil eye through the literal use of small mirror-disks. The apotropaic charm shown derives from magical ornaments originally designed for use on horse harness, to protect the animals. Today we find these charms utilised to decorate key rings, presumably to protect the modern gasoline-powered steed from the gaze of the envious.

The Kalbeliya of India are the tribe from whom the Rom or Romany people are descended. In Europe and America, they are sometimes referred to as “Bohemian”, after an old name for that part of Europe, although large numbers of them did live in Bohemia in times past, and as a people they retained the magic customs of their Kalbeliya forebears. Among these customs is a belief in the evil eye. – Lucky Mojo

When they are gone they are gone.
