Dvorovoi are the spirit of the household’s yard, he is closely related to the Domovoi, but this little guy lives in sheds, stables, and most likely garages in modern times as opposed to inside your home.
New animals that were brought to the house are introduced to him, so that he can welcome them to their new home. He is believed to be hostile to animals with white fur, although he will tolerate chickens with white feathers, for they have their own god. His job is to look after your animals, except for sheep… as he really really hates sheep or any animals with white fur or wool, & it is said that he is allergic to white fur.
Although they are supposedly at your service, the Dvorovoi are rather impish in nature and may turn nasty. Luckily they can easily be bribed, all you need to do is keep a pitchfork and some white fur handy just in case. If a piece of bread and some bits of sheep’s wool were left out, then he will probably do as he was bidden. He can also be made to do what was wanted by taking a long stick and tying a thread from the shroud of a dead man to its tip. This stick was then used to whip the yard and in the process of doing that the Dvorovoi would be sure to be lashed. Those that can see him could also take a pitchfork and pin him to the fence and demand he do what was told of him.
I personally believe in trying to work with my household spirits not against them and I highly recommend going the bribing route. Anoint yourself with our Essence perfume, leave him an offering of bread in your yard and politely ask him to watch over your animals (even the ones with white fur), and take care of your yard by keeping the faerie mushroom rings, weeds, and neighbors dog poop out of your grass. A person that appeases their Dvorovoi would be most successful in business: you will buy cheap and sell for good profit; your rye will go undamaged by hail, even if hail destroys the crops on the neighboring fields. Dvorovoi would not allow Leshi to have His fun in the master’s orchard; He would not let witches harm master’s cows, for He restores any damage and withstands to the plots of evil spirits.
