In Slavic mythology, all homes have a Domovoi, who is the soul of one (or all) of the deceased members of the family, making the him a part of ancestor worship traditions. Traditionally living at the threshold under the entrance, in the attic, or mainly in the hearth or behind the stove, everyone took care to not disturb the smoldering remains of a fire to keep their ancestors from falling through the grate.

A happy Domovoi is a friendly one, if the spirit is satisfied & on good terms with the household, it acts as it’s guardian, helping with chores, feeding the animals & protecting the residence from robbers. They are protector and soul of the house. He is the one who cares about the prosperity, that no one is quarrelling or getting sick, and that bad people and impure forces aren’t harming the owners. This one wants to bring luck and prosperity to your home.

Bast shoes are shoes made primarily from bast — fiber taken from the bark of trees such as linden. They are a kind of basket, woven and fitted to the shape of a foot. Bast shoes are a traditional footwear of the forest areas of Northern Europe, formerly worn by poorer members of the Finnic peoples, Balts, Ukrainians and Belarussians. They were easy to manufacture, but not durable. Similar shoes have also been made of strips of birchbark in more northern areas where bast is not readily available.
